Author Biographies



IRINA TWEEDIE

Irina Tweedie was born in Russia in 1907, and educated in Vienna and Paris. Following World War II, she married an English naval officer, whose death in 1954 led her on a spiritual quest. With a background in Theosophy, she travelled to India where she met a Sufi Master. He told her to keep a diary of her experiences with him, which became the book, Daughter of Fire. After his death in 1966, she returned to England and brought his teachings to the West. She has lectured throughout Europe and the United States. Irina Tweedie died in London August, 1999. Her work is being continued through The Golden Sufi Center in California.

 


LLEWELLYN VAUGHAN-LEE

Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee, Ph.D., is a sheikh in the Naqshbandiyya-Mujaddidiyya Order of Sufism. He has specialized in the area of dreamwork, integrating the ancient Sufi approach to dreams with the insights of modern psychology. In recent years the focus of his writing and teaching has been on spiritual responsibility in our present time of transition, and the emerging global consciousness of oneness (visit www.workingwithoneness.org). Author of several books on the subject, Llewellyn has lectured extensively throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. He currently lives in California.

 


SARA SVIRI

Sara Sviri, Ph.D., studied Arabic and Islamic studies at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, where she later taught in the Department of Arabic Studies. She currently holds the Catherine Lewis Lectureship in Medieval Studies at University College, London, England. For many years, Sara lectured extensively in Europe and the United States on Sufism. PETER KINGSLEY

Peter Kingsley, PhD, is internationally recognized for his groundbreaking work on the origins of western spirituality, philosophy and culture. Through his writings as well as talks he speaks straight to the heart and has helped to transform many people's understanding not only of the past, but of who they are. Together with his wife, Maria, he emigrated to the United States in 2002 and now teaches and writes in North Georgia. He is a Research Associate at Emory University in Atlanta as well as an honorary Professor both at the University of New Mexico and at Simon Fraser University in Canada.
